St Leo Tree Server Ministry - Portal

Welcome

Want to become an Altar Server? Our next Orientation is Saturday, March 10th, 2012 from 8:00 to 10:00am. Come join us!

Welcome everyone to the new St Leo Altar Server "Portal" page. Here, you should have access to all the resources you and your child need in order to do well in this ministry. If not, feel free to contact myself or Fr. Harry for anything that comes up.

Many Blessings,
Kelly Barth
Director of Liturgical Ministries

How the Program Works

At St Leo Church, the Altar Serving Ministry is highly valued as a ministry which not only serves the people of the parish, but also enables these young people to learn more about and experience in a new light the “source and summit of the Christian life” (CCC1324) the Sacred Liturgy (or what most of us call, the Mass). Each of our Servers fall into one of following categories as they grow in their ministry:

Candidate Level: Once a young person shows interest, they are considered a Candidate until Orientation.

Novice Level: After completion of Orientation as well as passing two entry exams (on vocabulary and basic duties), they become a Novice. Novices are scheduled with veteran Servers (called Acolytes) and will be reviewed on their performance. They must take a test to become a Server within 6 months. For more info, please visit the Novice Page.

Server Level: Once at the Serving level, no more training is required. Servers are NOT scheduled and reviewed by Acolytes.

Acolyte Level: If a Server so chooses, they may continue their training to become Acolytes. Acolytes receive a special cross to wear for their accomplishments, are asked to work with and evaluate Novices, and have first choice when asked to serve special Masses such as Christmas and Easter. For more info, please visit the Acolyte Page.
